Its been a long time since the last time that I played chess tournament and I really missed playing such a competitive match. And tomorrow, a province chess elimination will be happening in our place to select the top 10 players that will possibly represent Capiz in different inter-province chess competitions.

Now, I am trying to prepare for the event but my blogging activities (with my other blogs) and SEO tasks eat all of my time and specially now that search engines reacts differently to my different activities. I don’t know if I will survive the trial tomorrow but as I always saying regarding this kind of challenges, “I will just participate, enjoy every single game and make the best move that I could deliver.”

Right now, I am making a decision if I will choose a Sicilian move or a French Defense for my opening if in case my opponent prefer the King Pawn opening tomorrow.

Duso Oras Na Concluded Successfully

The first ever biggest chess event, mixed masters individual chess tournament in Capiz dubbed as “Duso… Oras Na!” concluded successfully yesterday. This event is supported by the Capiz provincial government under the leadership of Gov. Victor A. Tanco in cooperation with honorable Sen. Mar Roxas. This tournament is organized by Capiz Chess Association, Inc., the sole chess organization in Capiz that is currently affiliated to NCFP (National Chess Federation of the Philippines) under the leadership of Nelson Deita. The said chess competition was participated by several levels of players from different province of Visayas. Known personalities that joined the said tournament was FM Sander Severino, NM Rodolfo Toledo, NM Rodrigo Atutubo, NM Francis Jocson, NM Cesar Mariano and NM Arnold Cadiz.

Here are the final rankings (top 15) of the competition after the 6-rounds swiss system:

Saturday Chess in Capiz

I love chess but I can’t focus on it because of my busy schedules (SEO projects, blogging and others). Aside from that I don’t have a natural skills on puzzles and deep analysis . I only won once when I practice in full time. Now, Capiz Chess Association Inc. (CCA) will conduct a series of chess tournament this coming months. One of the upcoming chess tournament is this game on Saturday which is a provincial chess elimination tourney. This competition will choose the team to represent the province of Capiz that will participate for the regional chess tournament that is sanctioned by NCFP. More chess competitions are inline on the coming days of CCA.

I will try to play this Saturday and try to push those pieces based only on my experiences. I will try to practice this Friday if I can, I am doing something on Hectic Capiznon Bloggers 2009 as I mentioned on my previous post and my SEO projects. I don’t know if I could find a free time for this. If not then, come what may! As always.

By the way this Saturday’s chess tourney is entitled “Ret Gen Roberto “Lasti” Lastimoso Cup: “General Strategy.” Aside from this, two tournaments are inline after this. I will just discuss this on detail on a Wikipedia page. I am planning to build a Wikipedia site for the Capiz Chess Association, Inc. and I might prepare this next week after I find time.

Chess This Christmas

I have been busy for several months and was able to forget about playing chess for quite sometime now. Today, I decided to participate a chess tournament in Capiz entitled “Brilyansi – Matira Matibay!“, an individual grand prix tournament conducted by Capiz Chess Association, Inc. in cooperation with Gaisano Market Place and some other sponsors of the said competition. I lasted only up to the 2nd round of the game and it only shows that I am really becoming rusty in playing the game. I’ve been absent for several months on the chess scene and since the game is a Blitz Tournament (15 minutes time control) my last game was a lost due to my chess clock’s flag fall.

Astronaut’s Chess Challenge

After the successful return of the China’s space capsule Shenzhou VII from orbiting Earth, another unique space event will happen on outer space. It will be a challenge of chess in the floating International Space Station. Astronaut Greg Chamitoff, a chess aficionado and the International Space Station’s flight engineer and inhabitants of Earth will have a chess match starting September 29. Greg Chamitoff will be battling against Earth’s move.

According to Chessbase.com,

Key players in the game will be the kindergarten through third grade U.S. Chess Championship Team and its chess club teammates from Stevenson Elementary School in Bellevue, Wash. The K-3 champions will select up to four possible moves on Earth’s turn. The public then will vote on the move transmitted to orbit. The USCF will facilitate the match on its Web site at http://www.uschess.org/nasa2008.

The game against the public will move at a pace of one move per day on weekdays only. Play may be slower, however, because Chamitoff only makes moves when his workload permits.

I will surely participate to this once in a lifetime chess event of the year and this will be a new experience for all the chess enthusiasts like me. As of today, the first move of Chamitoff was 1. d4 and the Earth’s chess players voted for 1… Nf6 as the response for this opening of Chamitoff.

Blitz Winner

For the second time around this year, I won a Blitz Tournament in Roxas City, Capiz. It’s a small chess tournament held in Roxas City Plaza in a best of 2 knock-out system tournament format with a time control of 10 minutes each players.

My last opponent on the game was Mr. George Aman from Cagay, Roxas City. I beat him on the first round as white playing Sicilian Open Game. At that time, I was confident that I will surely win the said tournament. I just need a draw on the second round and the trophy will be surely mine. That’s the reason that on the second game, my moves were so passive because I was playing black and I’m just asking for a draw. I played Sicilian Dragon and exchange queens earlier in the opening disregarding castling rights hoping for a quick draw. Instead of a draw I got zugzwang and lost badly.

Due to this result, we need to play a Sudden Death round where I play as white and should play to win with a time control of 5 minutes and 4 minutes for my opponent. In this last round, my opponent move passively and was knocked-out after his flags down.

This is another simple achievement for myself. It will change a lot of things. It will really boosts my confidence to play and will gain respects from my co-chess-players. Actually, it doesn’t matter to me! I just want to play chess, no more no less.

Busby SEO Challenge on Google Trends

Google trends (trends.google.com) is a Google tool used by users from all over the world to check and compare the demands of various search terms and see the popularity of these terms differ across geographic regions, cities or languages. I use this tool and check the keyphrase “busby seo challenge” and there are still no data for this, maybe because the keyphrase is still new. I want to check this to see possible entrants for the said SEO challenge.

As an alternative for this objective, I check the keyword “seocontest2008″ instead.

The result of the Google trends shows that most of searches comes from the Philippines. This only means that many active SEO specialists participated the said SEO challenge. Actually the winner for the said contest was from France and the trends shows that they are almost the least country that queries for the keyword (and third on the Cities). Other top countries who searched for this keyword (and expected to join the Busby SEO Challenge 2008) are: Indonesia (Jakarta), Bulgaria, Hungary, India, France and United States. Woah, big time participants huh well that will not discourage me from joining the Busby SEO Challenge instead it will push me more!

Playing Chess & Masters

This next several months Capiz Chess Association, Inc. will have a series of chess tournaments on its annual schedule plans. This chess tournaments are big time tournaments sponsored by different political figures in Capiz. Aside from this local chess tournaments, an invitation coming from Iloilo came inviting CCA to join the Iloilo’s Grand Prix Chess Tournament.

How I wish that I could join this chess tournaments but I think it will be the end of my chess career for the mean time for this year. Why? It is because that I will enroll for Masters Degree of my Computer Science course. I know I’m old for this but I need this MSCS and the conflict is Chess tournaments usually happen every Saturday and my classes in Iloilo are always in Saturday. This only mean that I can’t play this tournaments. I’m kinda sad with this but it is just for a moment. When I’m done with my masters, I might continue playing chess.

Goodbye Chess and Hello my Masteral Studies! Sigh…

I really love playing chess during my free time. It refreshes my mind and try to move my brain muscles at the same time. It’s like chess is my gym work out for my brain specially every time I feel so stressed and burn out with work and the internet.

I want to feature the Sicilian Opening which I played as white during the championship game in Roxas City, Capiz Philippines. This opening was not actually played perfectly and I want to emphasize that I’m not a master but I really like this game anyway because of course I won this one. Actually, I played the opening well but I have a blunder on the middle game that given the chance the opponent to neutralize my attack.

So without no further chit-chat, here’s the game:

1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 d6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nf6 5.Nc3 e6 6.Be2 a6 7.Be3 Be7 8.Qd2 b5 9.f3 Bb7 10.g4… so we started with this sharp opening. Both of us really intend to win because this is the championship game.

The board of trustees of the CCA (Capiz Chess Association, Inc.) decided to change the current leadership and amended the CCA by-laws on election of new officers. The group decided to conduct election to restore the organization’s integrity.
