About a half year ago, Google announced its new operating system project called Chrome OS. Today, prior to the release of this new operating system to netbook users, they’ve released an open source OS code named Chromium OS. It is a project that “aims to provide fast, simple, and more secure computing experience for people who spend most of their time on the web.” According to Matt Cutts blog’s recent post, the boot time of the newest OS reach at about 7 seconds only. Woah, that was fast right!?

Now, if you want to have a copy of the operating system at its early stage, you can go to http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os for the source code and instruction on how to implement it. Remember, the said Chromium OS are intended for netbook computers and requires you to have a Linux OS (like Ubuntu) to build it.

By the way, here is the video from Google Chrome’s official Youtube Channel. It contains stuff that discuss about what inspires the development of Chrome OS.

If I could find free time this holiday vacation, I will try to explore this OS. I just loved to see and experience it on my MSI Wind netbook!

I’ve read this news from Reuters regarding the revelation of Nokia in using Linux as its operating system for its new phone called N900 tablet. Its a touch phone with a slide-out keyboard and cost about $700+ (that’s 32.9K in pesos not including the tax, wow what a price). Usually, Nokia phones uses Symbian OS as its primary operating systems for its phone and its the first for them to use Linux, an open source operating system that is known to compete Microsoft’s Windows OS. However, they’ve said that they are not putting Symbian aside and even told media that it is still Nokia’s primary platform for their phones and will make it to improve more on the coming years.

Here’s the technical specification of the Nokia RX-51 aka Nokia N900 tablet :

Tablet With Side-sliding QWERTY keyboard

About the same size of Nokia E75

800×480-pixel Touch Screen

5.0 MP camera with F2.8 Lens

Using ARM’s Cortex-A8 processor (improving energy management of the phone)

32.0 GB Internal Memory + microSD slot for 32.0 GB External Memory

micro-USB port

TV Out

GPS

Now, if you will ask me if I will buy it just in case it will be available here in the Philippines, well I like to but I can’t – I will not. I want to buy it because I want to experience how this phone works but its too impractical for my part. Its the same feeling that I felt for iPhone. But if I will be given a chance (and the money) to buy it, I love too.

They call it as “Google Chrome OS,” which is the natural extension of their previously released browser: Google Chrome. This new operating system from the number one search engine company today will be possessing the same quality that the company was known of. Speed, simplicity and security. If it will be released, which is expected by the 2nd half of 2010, netbook will benefit from this because these devices will be the first computer to use the said OS.

So by 2010, we will be using a new Linux kernel based OS that we can utilize on our netbooks for free. That’s amazing right?! Google is really doing something to make the life of surfers much more easier with their innovations and ideas. If this will be released, I will be one of those who will acquire the said system and install it to my netbook.

What’s up with Windows 7 today? It is not yet officially released but a lot of its build can be found on torrent sites already. I myself have downloaded it, not from torrent but from Microsoft’s official build and installed it with my new MSI Notebook. I am using the Windows 7 Build 7000 and I think the latest build for this OS is Build 7048. Currently Microsoft stop the release of beta and you could get them from torrent sites only which honestly don’t know if it is legal or not but more likely its not. Now as far as I could try it on my notebook PC, I found the new OS faster than its previous version and it really fits well on my notebook PC. So far if it will be released, I am convinced to acquire it soon.

Now, I’ve read from Reuters today that one additional feature that they’ve put on their latest build is the abilitiy of users to disable embedded software like the Internet Explorer 8 and the other stuff that is usually bundled on Microsoft’s OS. This let users, if they will know it how, disable the use of the browser and download from the internet different browsers from the net such as Firefox, Google Chrome and others. This is maybe their move to get themselves away from the “antitrust” issues that they’ve been facing for a couple years already because of embedding essential softwares on their operating systems.

Here are some related articles that you could read about this latest update on Windows 7:
