The “Secrets” of re-CAPTCHA Revealed

A new video was produced by Google Webmaster Help but today it is not about search engine optimization (SEO) or stuff about links from Matt Cutt but now its about how to prevent spams on your website. Luis von Ahn, a research scientist at Google introduced a free service called re-CAPTCHA. It is a service that protects your website from possible automated spams via asking your users, visitors or commentators to type a two human readable words or captcha before their comments are accepted.

Aside from that, Luis von Ahn revealed about the story behind the service and the other use of the captcha. Here’s the video containing his explanation:

The New Face of Google Reveals

I’ve read and tried about this new face and lay-out of the Google search engine and expecting it this year to be implemented and now recently when I try to check for a certain key phrase (I am looking for my website Laganap.com for the key phrase: Sikat Ang Pinoy – which is a Tagalog written news portal) using a US proxy site, the result shows a different appearance.

It shows like this (click the image to show a larger version of this picture):

How To Prevent Hacking? Surviving It!

Recently a lot of websites are reported being attacked by several hackers from different part of the world. Even the government websites are said to be hacked (which I honestly doubt it and personally in my opinion, I believe that its an inside job, someone gave the access :) ). Now the possibilities that your websites or even your PCs can be hacked is great. Specially with the wide spread of malware and malicious codes like virus & worms that weakens the security barrier of the PCs and websites.

You might wonder why a SEO guy like me is concerned with this issue. Well, website’s ranking (and even traffic) can be affected negatively by this kind of problem. When the site is infected or suffers the hacking attack, it left a bad reputation on the site that makes your visitors avoid or abandon your site. Aside from that search engines today put a visible marking on their search results regarding the infection and the harm that it might cause to possible visitors.

Now, how to prevent it? Here’s some of the things that I think you need to take into considerations when you are building a shield for your personal computers and websites.

How to Have Breadcrumbs for Site on Search Results?

This is the latest video of Matt Cutts about Breadcrumbs on search results and how to implement it on website. Google implemented it on search results but it is still on the early stage so there’s no fixed method or practice that is stated by Matts on the video. However, he emphasized that a “delimited links that accurately reflects the site’s hierarchy” might give a site a better chance to have breadcrumbs on search results.

Here’s the video:

Links from Twitter and Facebook Can It Help?

This year, Matt Cutts is back with this newest video on Google Webmaster Help – Youtube Channel explaining the ranking values and importance of links gained from Twitter, Facebook and other social networking sites. Here he explained that there is a possibility that link juice may pass from Facebook if your account on FB is set as public – which mean if it can be crawled by Google without any password restrictions. However, if asked if FB and Twitter has a high ranking value effect on your organic search, Matt said that they treat every source of links the same regardless of platform or domain.

Google give more importance on reputable links rather than the quantity of the said links.

Here is the video of the said discussion:
