Battery anxiety is the reason most of us still carry a power bank. Oppo just released a phone designed to end that habit: the A7 Pro Max packs a 10,000mAh cell, the biggest battery Oppo has ever put in a smartphone, and it debuts the Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 chipset for the rest of the world to benchmark. It launched in China on August 4, 2026, with pre-orders ending August 7 — and while there is no Philippine availability yet, the A7 Pro Max is the clearest statement yet that the budget segment has moved on from chasing camera megapixels to chasing days of uptime.

Design & Build Quality

Pick up the A7 Pro Max and the first thing you notice is the weight. At 224g to 226g depending on the color, it is a dense, solid slab — the price you pay for a five-digit battery. For comparison, the Poco M8 Power I reviewed recently is 226g with its 8,000mAh cell, so Oppo is right in line with the battery-first crowd.

The build is otherwise conventional: a 162.98 x 77.97 x 8.57mm frame with flat sides, an in-display optical fingerprint sensor, and a rear panel that comes in three finishes — Wave Rider (blue), Orange Glow, and Mountain Black. The blue and orange variants carry a 3D-embossed wavy texture that gives the back a tactile, premium feel that plain glass misses. It also hides fingerprints better than most.

Durability is the surprise here. Oppo rates the A7 Pro Max IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K — meaning dust-tight, fully submersible, resistant to high-pressure hot water jets, and ready for a car wash if you are truly committed. Budget phones almost never get IP69K; this one does. There is a stereo speaker setup with up to 300% volume, an IR blaster for controlling appliances, and NFC for contactless payments. A 3.5mm headphone jack, sadly, is not part of the package.

Gizmochina and Notebookcheck say TSMC, while SamMobile and 91mobiles say Samsung Foundry. Raw CPU gains are modest. In Geekbench 6.7.1, the A7 Pro Max scored 976 single-core and 2,250 multi-core — a small step over the Snapdragon 4 Gen 4’s roughly 930/2,210. If you are upgrading from a 4 Gen 4 phone purely for CPU speed, you will barely notice. The bigger story is graphics: Qualcomm claims a 77% GPU improvement with the Adreno 629, first-in-series support for 90 FPS gaming, 43% faster app launches, and 25% less screen stutter. Oppo keeps the camera honest at this price. The rear setup is a 50MP main sensor at f/1.8 with two-axis optical image stabilization, paired with a 2MP monochrome sensor that mostly helps with depth and black-and-white shots. There is a notification LED on the back, which is a nice retro touch. Up front, a 50MP selfie camera at f/2.0 covers a wide ~100-degree field of view — genuinely wider than most front cameras at this price, and it has autofocus.

The limitation is video. Both front and rear cameras cap out at 1080p, so there is no 4K recording at all. Oppo says the cell retains at least 80% of its original capacity after 1,500 charge cycles — roughly seven years of use if you do one full cycle every two days.

Realistically, a 10,000mAh cell on a Snapdragon 4-series chip means two full days of heavy use and three or four days of normal use before you reach for a charger. That is the same category of endurance the Poco M8 Power delivered with its 8,000mAh pack, and it directly competes with the vivo X300 E‘s 7,200mAh. The 80W charging is the differentiator — a 10,000mAh battery that refills fast removes the classic excuse for buying a smaller phone.

One caution I will flag: silicon-carbon batteries occasionally ship with a usable capacity below the advertised number. GSMArena commenters have pointed out that some earlier Si/C cells were artificially capped (the OnePlus 13 shipped with an advertised 6,000mAh but a usable 5,252mAh), though newer-generation cells are far better at delivering the full rating. Oppo has been less aggressive with capping than some rivals, but I would still treat the 10,000mAh figure as a promise to verify, not a fact to bank on until real battery tests exist.

Software

The A7 Pro Max runs Android 16 with ColorOS 16 on top. Oppo says it passed the company’s 72-month aging smoothness test, with optimizations aimed at cutting memory usage at startup and during everyday use — relevant for a phone with LPDDR4X RAM. There is an AI-powered Outdoor Mode 2.0 that boosts screen visibility and audio in bright environments, which pairs well with that 1,800-nit panel.

The honest gap: Oppo has not announced an update commitment for the A7 Pro Max. ColorOS 16 is current, but how many Android version upgrades this phone gets is unconfirmed. The Oppo A7 Pro Max is a battery-first phone that happens to check a lot of other boxes. For Filipinos, the honest answer is: wait for the local launch. There is speculation the A7 Pro Max will be rebadged as the Oppo F35 Pro in India, which would signal a Southeast Asian rollout, but nothing is confirmed.
